Our Services

Legacy provides a range of care and support services including assistance and advice on:

Accommodation General welfare matters and pensions Assistance with education Financial assistance to those in need Providing practical assistance  Advocacy Assistance with applying for DVA pensions Welfare checks Emergency house repairs or maintenance Falls prevention aids, walking frames, walking sticks and handrails

Home maintenance and safety Help with accessing medical and welfare services Life opportunities for children and youth Case management Provision of information regarding aged care services Referrals to other services and organisations Financial assistance Linking in support from Legatees Assistance in accessing Allied Health Services Accessing vision and hearing services

A Community Services Worker and a Pensions Officer are usually present to provide advice and assistance at the Legacy Office Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm.

Widow(er)s and dependant children of veterans who died on operational service or subsequently, and family members of the Australian Defence Force who die or are incapacitated as a result of their service are eligible to receive Legacy benefits. Widows of WWII veterans who served in Australia only are now also eligible for Legacy benefits.

Legacy Widows' Clubs

Legacy Widows’ Clubs support widows by facilitating comradeship, combating loneliness and fostering a spirit of self help under the umbrella of Legacy. Approximately 9% of our widows are members of the 46 Legacy Widows’ Clubs/Social Groups located throughout SA and Broken Hill. These Clubs/Social Groups provide a most important service to our widows and a very valuable level of support to Legacy activities.

The Clubs are run by the widows themselves but come under the umbrella of Adelaide Legacy and operate under a Constitution issued by Legacy. Each is supported as necessary and assisted by their Legatee Liaison Officer.

Legacy Social Groups

For those Legacy widows who still want to have social interaction with other Legacy widows, but without the structure and formality of a Legacy Widows Club, an alternative is a Legacy Social Group. These Groups still provide the benefits outlined above, but without the requirement for office bearers, minutes of meetings or financial reporting.  There are currently 27 active groups.

Bi-monthly Newsletters

Six issues of a bi-monthly newsletter are provided to all widow(er)s registered with Legacy each year. They keep widows up to date with welfare matters and social issues as well as regularly reminding them of the availability of Legacy support.
