Legacy Club of South Australia and Broken Hill were honoured to host the Australasian Soldiers Dardanelles Cenotaph Commemorative Service on Sunday 5 September 2021.  This cenotaph is believed to be the first significant memorial to those who lost their lives during the Gallipoli campaign.

The Dardanelles Memorial Cenotaph was unveiled by his Excellency the Governor General Sir R Munro Ferguson on Wattle Day 7th September 1915.  This initiative had caused Adelaide to be the first city in the Commonwealth to erect a memorial to the landing of the troops on Gallipoli, and the birth of the Anzac legend.

The memorial was funded and established by the families of veterans who were amidst the fighting in the Dardanelles in 1915.  The memory of hundreds of thousands of Australians who have served our nation, and for those who have lost their life or health in the service of our country remains true to this day.
